The Missing Touch
Acrylic Paint, 36.00 X 24.00 IN
This piece expresses missing the touch of loved ones during the Covid Pandemic. For several families, including my own, we had to “refuse” the feeling of togetherness, to keep ourselves and others safe. In “The Missing Touch” I used a wide variety of colors, warm to cold, resembling the mixed emotions we felt during this time. Life brings many moments of refusal, where standing up for what is best can be difficult, and having to refuse seeing people you love for months creates a lot of emotion.
Walk of Hope
Acrylic Paint with Collage, 12.00X 16.00 X 0.00 IN
Lack of affordable housing is the leading cause of homelessness. Providing safe shelter and a sense of ‘normal’ is vital. Repurposed shipping containers are converted quickly and affordably into long lasting, comfortable homes. In my painting, a person is portrayed departing a homeless, dark past toward a promising, sheltered future. Dead flowers, an abandoned tent and abused money lay behind the person as they walk toward their future; an inviting home. Focusing on the hands and feet, flowers symbolize hope and change. Bright orange container homes reflect a secure life ahead. Affordable housing is the future and will change the World.
Big and little me
Oil Paint, 24.00 X 30.00 IN
In this self portrait, I am holding my younger self and depicting my interests over time. I wanted to express how I have developed, not only in my art but life in general. When I was younger, academics were not my strong point. About 11 years ago, I drew the picture younger me is holding. Art taught me in order to improve, you can’t give up. Little me began applying this lesson to everything in life. This encouraged me to become a Distinguished Academic, and a more confident individual overall.
A better holiday
Acrylic Paint with Collage ,12.00 X 16.00 X 0.00 IN
Many homeless describe the holiday season as the most depressing time of the year. They witness others fulfill their ‘golden’ dreams receiving love and returning to a nice warm home. In my painting, a smiling man is holding a bright yellow flower resembling little amounts of love the homeless receive. People of all situations deserve the ‘golden hour’ of love and a comforting home especially during the holiday season.
